PLYWOOD INDUSTRIES CALLS NATIONWIDE STRIKE AGAINST HIGH GST RATES AND MANDI TAX.

shering a new system of indirect tax in the country, GST was rolled out on July 1, 2017. However, Plywood Industry did not welcomed the much higher slab of 28% GST rates on plywood thereby calling a strike against the much higher GST rates and to abolish Mandi Tax in wood business as well. Haryana Plywood Manufacturers’ Association was the first to raise voice against this higher GST rates a week ago. Punjab Plywood Manufacturers’ Association, UP Plywood Manufacturers’ Association & Uttarakhand Plywood Manufacturers’ Association also joined hand along with Haryana Plywood Manufacturers’ Association to protest against the cause calling a complete shutdown of the factories from July 14.

This decision will be a major setback for the government as Plywood Industry provide a means of livelihood not only to manufacturers but to various other sectors of society including farmers, transporters, labours, timber growers and many others.


The protest is being lead by the All India Plywood Manufacturers’ Association whereas other state associations are supporting the cause. An official from HPMA has stated that members of the association, staff of the factories and labours will march to Yamunanagar DC office on July 14 and will submit a memorandum of their demands.
